Everyone deserves a great love story. But for seventeen-year old Simon Spier it’s a little more complicated: he’s yet to tell his family or friends he’s gay and he doesn’t actually know the identity of the anonymous classmate he’s fallen for online.

It's fresh, yet not. It's a different take on a normal "gay plot" --coming out.
I'm pretty sure this is the first major-release title that stars a gay character.
I read the book and saw it the day the movie came out. The book is DEFINITELY a good read.
Let me say this:
My ex-boyfriend (who generally hates gay movies...) texted me once he finished this movie saying: "I'm actually surprised. I actually enjoyed that movie."
And I know exactly why:
This movie, the way it portrays coming out is extremely relatable. That's why i called it a "fresh take on coming out".
He, even still semi-closeted, could relate to this. I think EVERYONE, gay or straight, can relate to this movie.
The Queer Factor of a title is how much of its content is relevant to LGBTQ+ issues. For instance, if a title only has only a small gay subplot, it would score as a “1” on the scale. If over 80% of a title’s plot is LGBTQ+ related, it would score as a “6”.
This is not a rating system for if the title was good/bad; please leave reviews at the bottom of a title’s page.
You must be logged in to submit a Queer Factor Score.
